Premium Grade 'Heavy' Handsplit Shakes
View the cedar shake roof installation manual
If you want character then look no further. Handsplit shakes have a superb rustic uneven finish on the exposed face. The 'heavy' part of the description refers to the thick butts (19mm) which create a more defined shadow line. The overall result is a superb, one-of-a-kind characterful roof that will provide excellent insulation and will last for decades with minimal maintenance.
These shakes have split faces and sawn backs. Cedar logs are first cut into 24" (610mm) lengths. Blanks or boards are split and then run diagonally through a bandsaw to produce two tapered shakes from each blank.
Please note, these are now available from stock in Premium Grade. Previously only Number 1 Grade (slightly lower grade) were available.
