FSC certified Yellow Balau deck boards are supplied with a smooth face and beveled edges. Other profiles including a reversible grooved / reeded deck board are available to order. A range of Yellow Balau railing components are also available.
Yellow Balau (pronounced Bal-Ow) - Barbata - is a very durable Malaysian hardwood that does not require treatment. It is a hard, heavy and strong timber that is well suited to deck construction.
FSC - Forest Stewardship Council Certification
FSC is the strictest of the forest harvesting certification processes. The FSC was created in the 1990s by environmental and social groups, foresters and landowners to provide consumers with a rigorous, independent system for identifying products from ecologically, socially, and economically well-managed forests.
Characteristics
Yellow Balau has an interlocking grain and a fine and even texture. Its colour varies between yellowish-brown, brown and pale reddish-brown. Occasional pinhole is acceptable within the grading rules of this species.
